Assignment: Envisioning and Defining Our Community
Objetive
This exercise is designed to foster creativity and critical thinking about the concept of community. It encourages you to imagine and then concretely define the characteristics of an ideal or perceived community.
Tasks
You can involve more people in the exercise to help you brainstorm and conceptualise the community.
- Brainstorming Session (15-20 minutes):
- Spend 5 minutes brainstorming about the ideal or imagined community. Think broadly and creatively without limitations. Jot down any ideas that come to mind, focusing on the concept of ‘community’ as you perceive or wish it to be.
- Detailed Community Analysis (10-30 minutes): Based on your brainstorming, define your community more concretely in the next 10-30 minutes. Address the following points in your analysis:
- Community Composition: Who makes up this community? Consider the diversity or homogeneity of its members/organisations/stakeholders.
- Spatial Dynamics: Are there any physical, geographical, social, cultural or economic limitations or characteristics of this community’s space?
- Unifying Elements: What factors or elements bring members of this community together? These could be shared values, interests, goals, or experiences.
- Exclusion Criteria: Identify any elements that might exclude someone from being part of this community. What boundaries or criteria define who belongs and who doesn’t?
